The LIAISE COST Action was strongly represented at the 7th Symposium on Circular Economy and Sustainability, held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, from 24 to 26 June 2026.

LIAISE was presented during the first plenary session of the symposium, offering participants an overview of the Action’s objectives, activities and contribution to advancing research and cooperation in the field of Industrial Symbiosis.

The symposium programme also included a session chaired by Almudena Muñoz Puche, Chair of the LIAISE COST Action. During this session, the project’s Technology Watch and Competitive Intelligence Platform for Industrial Symbiosis was presented. The tool has been developed to support the identification, monitoring and sharing of relevant technological, scientific, policy and market developments connected to Industrial Symbiosis.

Several members of the LIAISE network also contributed to the scientific programme. Apostolos Michopoulos, Co-Leader of Working Group 4, presented research related to Industrial Symbiosis, while Mine Güngörmüşler, Co-Grant Awarding Coordinator, delivered a further presentation linked to circular economy and sustainability.

A major highlight of LIAISE’s participation was the special session: LIAISE COST Action Round Table: Industrial Symbiosis – Digitalisation, Drivers and Circular Solutions

Facilitated by Ákos R. Wetters and Almudena Muñoz Puche, the round table was designed as an interactive space for participants to connect, exchange knowledge and identify practical opportunities for collaboration.

Building on the research findings presented throughout the symposium, the session encouraged participants to explore concrete ideas for future projects and joint initiatives in the fields of circular economy, sustainability and Industrial Symbiosis.

The round table opened with a presentation by Tim Brinkman from Renewi, an expert in innovation and product development, who shared Renewi’s approach to circular economy practices and highlighted key lessons learned from their implementation.

LIAISE’s participation in the symposium provided an important opportunity to increase the visibility of the Action, disseminate its tools and research activities, and strengthen collaboration with researchers, practitioners and organisations working towards more sustainable and circular industrial ecosystems.
