Objectives

LIAISE COST Action aims to ensure an inclusive and holistic Industrial Symbiosis approach by generating relevant synergies among different actors from the q-helix stakeholder model and by setting the groundwork for increased and robust development of knowledge, apart from promoting future results-oriented R&D.

Research Coordination Objectives

O1

Produce and update state-of-the-art in IS topic and its subareas, settling the basis for further improvements and their introduction in industry. At the same time, identify and address technical, regulatory, governance, policies, financial, legal and training drivers, barriers and KPIs for a wider and better IS implementation.

O2

Coordinate, compare and bring together the results of associated research, ICT tools and other databases related to by-products, waste, etc. with the aim of defining optimised holistic approaches to improve the performance of IS processes and widen their use in the industry across the EU and rest of the world.

O3

Raise awareness of the value of reused waste and by-products and develop a common understanding of how IS principles, as well as other business models, can be translated into feasible actions and strategies for sustainable and circular industry and hence, a better society.

O4

Promote an advanced training for researchers, students and professionals in IS-related topics while fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, new lines or research and development, and technological innovation will be evaluated and proposed.

O5

Synthesise and improve existing knowledge from local, regional, national, European and international settings, disciplinary disparate dialogues to share a coherent scientific overview and dialogue for designing IS synergies.

O6

Make available a collaborative platform that will lay the groundwork for collaboration and link the community to be brought together in the Action, collecting a wide range of information, training material, peer-to-peer contact forms, reports and documentation, among others.

O7

Develop a multidisciplinary IS-related community to promote staff and research exchange and knowledge sharing, as well as facilitating access to equipment and infrastructure. This will ensure an innovative policy and practice exploitation through dissemination and ecosystem strengthening across all over Europe and beyond.

Capacity Building Objectives

O1

Set up a common, integrated, inter- and multidisciplinary network with the objective of sharing knowledge, experiences, best practices and benchmarks in IS by bringing together participants from several communities, origins and expertise. In addition, an open, inclusive, gender-balanced and societal- driven network will be created.

O2

Act as stakeholder’s platform to identify the needs, requirements and barriers from different fields and points of view through a bottom-up approach (from society, through industry, users representatives businesses, clusters, academia and researchers, to policy-makers).

O3

Encourage policy-makers and local, regional and national communities to adopt concrete IS approaches by raising awareness of the current linear economy’s consequences and involving them in IS implementation.

O4

Develop new skill sets and novel approaches to IS for existing and new stakeholders including industrial companies, research centres, industrial parks, clusters, local and regional bodies, and policy-makers, among others. The learning outcomes and curricula will be also oriented to industry’s needs, as well as the workshops and training schools.

O5

Foster and accelerate IS knowledge exchange among stakeholders from different COST regions worldwide. This will also increase the success rate in future proposals (e.g., Horizon Europe), identifying suitable pilots and connecting with existing R&D projects that deal with the IS at both national, EU and international levels.

O6

Promote internationalisation by strengthening the relations between peers and institutions through visits and meetings with international researchers and fostering Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) to this end.
