On 26–27 May, members of Working Group 3 (WG3) of the LIAISE COST Action gathered at the University of Piraeus, Greece, for a two-day programme combining a thematic workshop and a dedicated working meeting focused on advancing the group’s activities and deliverables.
The week began with the WG3 Workshop, “Advancing Industrial Symbiosis: From Learning and Awareness to Cross-Sectoral Action”, which brought together researchers and practitioners from across the network to exchange knowledge, present case studies, and discuss emerging developments in Industrial Symbiosis. Sessions covered topics including cross-sectoral synergies, policy and education, monitoring and communication strategies, societal perceptions, and systemic approaches to circularity. The programme also featured poster presentations and contributions from several European initiatives working on sustainability and circular economy challenges.
Building on the insights generated during the workshop, WG3 members convened the following day for an intensive working meeting focused on the status and future development of the group’s key outputs. Discussions addressed the progress of several deliverables, including the report on existing training and future learning frameworks, governance analysis and policy mapping activities, the Industrial Symbiosis KPI dashboard, awareness-raising and collaboration tools, and the Technology Watch and Competitive Intelligence platform.
A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to collaborative working sessions in which participants reviewed ongoing work, consolidated contributions, refined content, and identified the remaining actions required for completion. These discussions enabled the group to establish a clear roadmap, assign responsibilities, and agree on the next steps needed to finalise the remaining Year 3 deliverables ahead of the October deadline.
Beyond the technical progress achieved, the meetings highlighted the value of collaboration within the LIAISE network. The exchange of expertise among participants not only enriched the quality of the ongoing work but also strengthened the foundations for future cooperation and knowledge transfer across countries and sectors.
WG3 would like to thank all participants, speakers, organisers, and contributors for their active engagement and commitment. The outcomes of this week represent an important milestone in ensuring the successful delivery of the group’s objectives and supporting the broader mission of LIAISE to foster cooperation, capacity building, and industrial symbiosis across Europe.
