LIAISE Science Communication Coordinator Shares Insights from COST Communication Workshop

Mr. Leonardo Piccinetti, the Science Communication Coordinator for LIAISE, recently participated in the COST Communication Workshop held on 6th and 7th March 2024 in Brussels. The workshop, dedicated to enhancing communication effectiveness for COST Action Coordinators, particularly in the realm of Science Communication, aimed to elevate the visibility of COST Actions and the overall COST Programme.
The two-day event addressed the challenges faced by science communicators in conveying scientific outputs to diverse audiences. Participants, including Mr. Piccinetti, received support in building robust communication strategies tailored to their respective COST Actions. They explored the adaptation of narrative based on network goals, integration of digital elements, and engagement with various stakeholders.
Mr. Piccinetti representing LIAISE with enthusiasm and dedication, actively contributed to discussions surrounding the optimisation of communication efforts. His participation underscored our collective commitment to leveraging effective communication as a catalyst for driving positive change in the realm of Industrial Symbiosis.
“Being a Science Coordinator is a transformative experience where cooperation became the cornerstone of our shared pursuit of sustainable development. Witnessing the cross-border transfer of knowledge and the fervent commitment to industrial symbiosis among diverse stakeholders reaffirmed the power of collaboration in shaping a greener, more interconnected future.”
The workshop delved into key moments for effective communication throughout the lifespan of a network, identifying specific opportunities such as website and social media channel selection, logo creation, networking activities, press releases, multimedia content, and final deliverables.
Utilising the participatory COST café format, participants engaged in discussions and shared best practices, drawing from concrete examples of successful Actions. The interactive environment fostered valuable insights for participants at various stages of their Action Networks, encouraging discussions on successful strategies for promoting complex scientific content to non-expert audiences.
Mr. Piccinetti and other participants left the workshop equipped with enhanced communication strategies and a deeper understanding of how to maximise the impact of their COST Actions through effective science communication..
As we continue to navigate the complex landscape of sustainability and innovation, events like the COST Communication Workshop serve as pivotal platforms for refining our communication strategies and ensuring that the transformative impact of LIAISE extends far and wide.
