From June 16 to 18, 2025, the city of Alexandroupolis (Greece) hosted the 6th Symposium on Circular Economy and Sustainability, bringing together researchers, policy experts, and practitioners from across Europe to exchange knowledge and advance circular practices. The LIAISE COST Action proudly participated as a supporting partner of the event.
During the plenary session on Monday, the Action Chair had the honour of presenting the objectives, current activities, and upcoming opportunities of LIAISE. The presentation received highly positive feedback, underlining the relevance of the network’s work on Industrial Symbiosis and sustainable transitions.
On Tuesday, LIAISE organized and chaired a dedicated session titled: “Accelerating Circular Transitions: LIAISE COST Action Members’ Contributions to Industrial Symbiosis and Sustainable Innovation”. The session highlighted research and case studies from LIAISE members, with the following contributions:
- “Accelerating Industrial Symbiosis Schemes: Lessons Learned from Indicative Case Studies”, presented by Apostolos Michopoulos.
- “Advancing Industrial Symbiosis through Targeted Training: A Research and Technology Organization’s Perspective”, presented by Ana Ramos.
- “Agent-based Modelling for the End-of-Life Management of Wind Turbine Blades: Integrating Economic and Environmental Impacts”, presented by: Oscar Nieto-Cerezo
This session offered valuable insights into how Industrial Symbiosis can be strengthened through applied research, training, and modelling approaches, reinforcing LIAISE’s mission to support knowledge exchange across disciplines and sectors.
We thank all the presenters and participants for their contributions and look forward to continued collaboration in promoting circular economy transitions across Europe.
